Aqua Shard is one of 3 restaurants to recently open their doors in London’s most iconic high-rise building, the Shard. We’ve tried Oblix (one of the other 2 restaurants) and were disappointed, but were very pleasantly surprised with Aqua Shard (we will try Hutong, the 3rd restaurant, in a few weeks). Aqua Shard is much more than a restaurant with a good view, it’s a restaurant with very good food.
As you would expect, the views of London from the 32nd floor of the Shard are impressive. The cocktail lounge at Aqua Shard is a perfect location to impress someone and the interior of the the whole place is tasteful and sleek.
When we visited Aqua Shard we tried the following dishes:
- Green pea custard and foie gras (9/10)
- Summer fruit (8/10)
- Heritage carrots salad (9/10)
- Pork belly (8.5/10)
- Diver scallops (8.5/10)
- Sweetcorn (8/10)
- Chocolate millefeuile (8.5/10)
- Snow egg (8.5/10)
After our disappointing experience at Oblix we were unsure what to expect from Aqua Shard, but we need not have worried. The food tasted great and executed at a very high level, the service showed only a few minor glitches (in the 2nd week of opening) and the whole experience was memorable.
One aspect that could do with improving is the format of the place. We found the format at Aqua Shard dated (you know, that naughties Terence Conran kind of posh sleek) and think it could do with some modernising. But besides that we enjoyed our visit to Aqua Shard thoroughly and will happily return soon.
The total bill at Aqua Shard came to £120 (including service charge, coffee, water and a mocktail).
