The cooking at the Angels with Bagpipes is very accomplished and the menu offers plenty of choice with a nice selection of locally sourced Scottish ingredients. I decided to go for the pork belly & cheek starter, followed by the lamb rump with sweetbread and butter beans. For dessert I opted for the pannacotta. I also tried some of the de-constructed apple crumble of my colleague.
In particular, the lamb at the Angels with Bagpipes was very good and one of my colleague’s was raving about his duck breast with foie gras starter (would definitely want to try that next time).
I’m not an expert on the Edinburgh restaurant scene (yet), but so far I’d consider this one of the best restaurants I’ve tried in Edinburgh (with Tom’s Kitchin‘s place rated slightly higher).
Overall rating of the Angels with Bagpipes: 8/10
